Individualized education-based rehabilitation - teaching you to be independent and regain control of your condition and beyond.
I don’t want you to have to rely on me and manual techniques. The body was meant to be self-sustaining if it moves well for the faculties it has. While I’ll never talk down manual therapy - and I certainly apply it where it is needed - the goal is to be self-sustaining without someone having to shove a bunch of needles or elbows in you in order to function well.
Most patients end up coming 1x/week, and my programming for you is going to encourage progress on a weekly basis so we are never repeating the content of sessions. This will allow us to make the most out of your time.
For physical therapy, I take my patients through a 3-step approach and outline of their road ahead:
i. Focus: Identify impairments and address symptoms
ii. Focus: Address core issue(s): strength deficits, neuromuscular control deficits, flexibility deficits, endurance deficits, etc
iii. Focus: Prevent decline in function and future injuries by: focusing on the perfection of your biomechanics, exercise and movement programming, moving into exercise and sport performance
Personalized, 1-on-1 care - the time you book with me is YOUR time, with no overlapping treatment times with other patients.
In traditional physical therapy clinics, a physical therapist may see 12-18 patients per day, leading to overlapping patient appointments in order to fill clinic demands for billing. On top of that, this leads to early physical therapist burnout and diminishing returns for patients.
I limit my patient panel in order to dedicate more time and attention to the patient experience. This includes, but is not limited to: communication with a patient's other healthcare providers, communication with national sporting bodies (e.g. U.S. Paralympic Track & Field, USA Swimming, WheelWOD, etc.), communication with a patient/client's sport coaches, and attending patients' off-site events for treatments and competitions.
Direct and consistent communication with Dr. Audrey Chien, PT, DPT.
In traditional PT clinics, PTs are oftentimes overburdened by the amount of patient care (remember the 12-18 patients per day?), as well as other documentation obligations (to justify to insurance why your care is needed and valid). This limits direct communication to the person or people responsible for your care, leaving barely any room for PTs to respond to a patient's questions outside of a session.
Having a reduced patient panel allows me more time to answer questions and be present with your care. As with rehabilitation and general health, things are never static and they do evolve. You can expect that your questions and concerns will be addressed directly and in a timely fashion with me.
No limit to your care - freedom to treat anything.
Insurance-based PT often lends to a limited amount of physical therapy, oftentimes by limiting appointments (e.g. 12 appointments for the entire year, 4 appointments per diagnosis, etc).
At Legion RAF, there is no limit to the amount of appointments you can schedule, or diagnoses you can see me for. You and I will formulate a plan to address any ailments you might have, even if they pop up from unrelated events throughout the course of treatment.
Continue to prioritize fitness after discharge with personalized health & fitness maintenance plans
In traditional PT clinics, their responsibility for your care ends at discharge from your plan of care. It is hard to get to any lingering questions from already discharged patients, as traditional clinics already have current patients prioritized.
At Legion RAF, I offer a maintenance plan for tune-up appointments after discharge, allowing you to continue your personalized experience with me. I also hold regular workshops at Crossfit Catonsville, allowing folks another avenue to continue learning past discharge.
Flexible scheduling and appointment times.
Traditional PT clinics are open 8-5pm, sometimes 7am-7pm. As these clinics are overburdened, and most popular hours are booked months in advance, patients find themselves in a scenario in which they need to either take off from work in order to attend PT, or get on a months-long waitlist for an appointment slot to open up. Either of the above do not help with compliance to a physical therapy plan of care.
My appointment times occur throughout the day, with many appointment times falling after traditional work hours, allowing you to attend PT and not have to take time off in order to improve your quality of life.
My appointment hours can be lengthened in order to fit your needs. As I have patients that travel from out of the state and out of the country, I understand requests to have more time in your appointment if time allows. Contact me directly if you need longer sessions. Prices will adjust accordingly to changes made and agreed upon.
Cost savings and time savings - quality time over a quantity of visits.
Traditional clinics will have the PTs' attention directed in a myriad of ways as they try to make their productivity demands, which will decrease the quality of care they might be able to otherwise give to each patient. This means more sessions per week, more time spent traveling to unproductive appointments, and a higher cost for your treatment plan (2-3x/week for 8-12 weeks, at a $40 co-pay, sound familiar?), before you are discharged.
I believe in giving the quality of care that I would like to receive, meaning: highly-focused, productive, and efficient sessions. While you can most certainly choose a more hands-on experience with multiple sessions per week, my patients receive my complete time and attention for the duration of their appointments. No aides, no administrators, no distractions, and I will never be trying to document behind a laptop during your session, etc. Having high-quality sessions allows you to have more time instead traveling and then engaging in distracted sessions.
Complete cost transparency - no hidden or delayed fees.
With traditional insurance-based clinics, the bill for your sessions can arrive weeks, oftentimes months after the fact, leading to confusion regarding finances, multiple calls to collection agencies, and a lot of math for how simple things could be.
At Legion RAF, the package or session amount you choose, is the amount you pay. No surprise billing or unexpected fees. Terms and conditions of packages will always be written, and I will review those with you to ensure your full understanding regarding any financial commitments.
Thank you and see you soon!
